As a
member of the Immigrant Youth Justice League, La Colectiva and part of the
National Immigrant Youth Alliance, Andrea went to Georgia for the next two
weeks to help fight alongside immigrant youth. As you know, there are a series
of anti- immigrant policies and pieces of legislation that are targeting
immigrant communities in a growing number of states. Georgia is one of these
states. Currently, undocumented students are banned from attending five public colleges
in the state. If House Bill 59 passes, undocumented students will be banned
from ALL colleges and universities in Georgia. We recognize the power that
immigrant youth have when speaking out for themselves, their futures, their
education, and their lives. We have lived through this. It is time for undocumented
youth in Georgia to be heard.
For this reason we ask for your help. As individuals, as part of IYJL, as part
of La Colectiva, we are low on funds. We realize that
times are hard and we recognize that every cent is precious to you. However, we
are extremely dedicated to this cause and we have no doubt that Georgia will be
a safer, friendlier, and more educated state because you helped make this
happen.
